Welcome to the Yukon

In Whitehorse, Harley pads along the Yukon River and stares up at the late-late sunset. “Dad,” he whispers, “the sun forgot to go to bed.” Dad smiles. “That is the Midnight Sun, buddy.”

The Story

Harley and Dad visit the SS Klondike, then rumble up the highway toward Kluane, where mountains rise like giants. A glossy black bird lands on Oliver’s mirror and croaks a greeting. Harley blinks. “A very fancy crow?”

The bird hops closer, eyes bright. He drops a shiny bottle cap at Harley’s paws. Dad chuckles. “Meet Rory the Raven — Yukon’s smartest tour guide.” Rory caws proudly and points (with his beak) toward the next viewpoint as if he owns the whole sky.

By dusk, Harley is wearing the bottle cap on his collar like a medal, and Rory rides the wind alongside Oliver. “Some friends fly,” Harley says, “and some friends fetch shiny things.”

Rory the Raven

Sleek, clever, and proud of his shine-collecting skills, Rory is a soft black plush raven with a curious tilt to his head. He loves lookout points, tall spruce trees, and pockets that jingle.

Rory’s motto: “Be curious and carry something shiny.” He reminds Harley that quick wits and kind hearts make the best team.

Harley’s note: “Rory says I am officially ‘Chief Shiny Finder.’ I accept this job.”
